There's a new themed restaurant located in Washington Heights in NYC! Rue La Rue Cafe, a Golden Girls themed restaurant has officially opened up for business. Rue La Rue is named after actress Rue McClanahan-La Rue who played the infamous vixen Blanche on Golden Girls. Her real life son Mark Bish from last husband Michael La Rue wanted to pay Tribute to his late mother by opening this restaurant. He wanted the walls to be dressed with memories of his mother and her Golden Girl besties while combining the comfort of good food and nostalgia for all Golden Girls fans. Some of the things that would impress any Golden Girl fan include:
The infamous yellow wall phone found in the kitchen.
Bathroom tiles replicate the bathroom decor from the show.
Blanche showcases her clothing, shoes, and even her 1987 Emmy Award as shown here sitting next to Betty White's prized Coconut Cake.
The food menu includes breakfast and lunch for now with dinner coming soon. There are many Show related dishes up for grabs and of course you know there had to be cheesecake available for dessert! Dine away while the Golden Girl episodes play on a big flatscreen on the wall.
The Rue La Rue Restaurant is still in soft open mode but has already attracted many tourists and die hard Golden Girls fans from all over the world. Although this hit show took place in the 80's, many from the newer generation still gravitate to this cute and cozy place for that perfect selfie.
Let us know if you plan to visit! If you have visited already please share your favorite Golden Girls memory, we'd love to hear from you! THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND. ;)
